Those eager to visit West Bengal for tourism purposes will need to carry their COVID-19 RT-PCR negative reports, or COVID-19 vaccine certificates. The authorities have made it mandatory for all the favored destinations in Bengal, including Digha and Mandarmani.

AM Hirani, a politician in Purba Medinipur said, “We issued a notice on Monday directing hotels to not allow tourists if they are doing not carry either Covid-19 test reports issued 48 hours earlier or certificates of Covid-19 vaccination”.

The move comes after looking at the overtourism condition in places like Manali, Dharamshala, Shimla and Kullu in Himachal Pradesh. Tourists have now started crowding the famous beach destinations in South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore also after the authorities in West Bengal relaxed some restrictions.

According to a tourism department official, tourists have again started flocking the favored beach destinations and every one the state-run hotels are almost full on the weekends. He further said that at Bakkhali in South 24 Parganas, which is another popular beach destination, there are not any rooms available within the coming weekend.

Bipradas Chatterjee, Joint Secretary of Digha Hoteliers Association, said, “Times are tough thanks to the pandemic situation. We would, however, follow the government rules. We will have a meeting of our association members to discuss the issue.”
